Thyroid Disorder Treatment in Fayetteville & Hope Mills, NC
What is the thyroid gland?
The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland in the neck that makes two hormones that are necessary for all the cells in your body to work normally. They are thyroxine and triiodothyronine. The thyroid gland is responsible for these hormones which also regulate the body's metabolic rate, heart function, digestive function, muscle control, bone maintenance, and brain development.
The thyroid gland is located at the front of the neck just below the Adam's apple (larynx). It is butterfly-shaped with two lobes located on both sides of the windpipe (trachea). A normal thyroid gland is not usually visible or able to be felt on the neck.
As with many medical conditions, there can be subtle signs that suggest something is wrong. It is important to pay attention to how your body feels and functions. Some symptoms of thyroid problems are:
Fatigue and exhaustion after a good night's sleep
Unexplained weight gain or the inability to lose weight

Painful extremities or muscles
High blood pressure
Cold hands and feet, consistently having a body temperature lower than 98.5
